Vinyasa Yoga

The Vinyasa Yoga classes offered at O'Wellness provide a dynamic yoga practice in which breath and movement flow in harmony. Transitions between flows support the development of strength, flexibility and balance. They offer a balanced experience that increases both physical and mental focus.

Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic style of yoga in which breath and movement are combined fluidly. ‘Vinyasa’ means ‘to place in a special way’ in Sanskrit — each pose is linked to the one before and after it with a deliberate transition.

O’Wellness vinyasa yoga sessions last 60 minutes and have the following structure: 10 minutes of breath and warm-up, a 35-minute flow sequence (sun salutation A/B, standing poses, balance poses, inversions), 10 minutes of cool-down and 5 minutes of savasana (relaxation). The theme changes each session — hip-opener focused, twist focused, backbend focused, and so on.

Unlike classical hatha yoga, vinyasa involves continuous movement and therefore provides a moderate cardiovascular effect; for this reason it is regarded both as a mentally meditative practice and as a functional workout. Members who practise vinyasa regularly have been observed to report improved sleep quality, better stress management and greater overall mobility within 6–8 weeks.
