Reformer Pilates
The Reformer Pilates classes offered at O'Wellness strengthen the core, improve posture and increase flexibility through controlled exercises on specialised reformer equipment. Performed with correct technique under the instructor's guidance, they offer an effective exercise experience for both beginners and advanced athletes.
Reformer Pilates is a low-impact yet highly effective exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates and performed on a specially designed reformer machine, working every muscle of the body in depth.
In O’Wellness reformer pilates studios, each class is run in small groups of a maximum of 6–8 people; this way our instructor individually monitors every participant’s posture and movement quality. Thanks to spring resistance, the reformer provides both resistance and support, reducing pressure on the joints — which makes reformer pilates extremely effective both during post-pregnancy recovery and for people with chronic back and lower-back pain.
A typical reformer pilates session lasts 50 minutes and consists of three main phases: breath and posture preparation, core-focused fundamental movements, and a flexibility-mobilisation closing. Different muscle groups are targeted in each session; members who attend regularly 2–3 times a week have been observed to report noticeable postural change, strength gain and improved flexibility within 4–6 weeks.
Class flow
| Duration | Section |
|---|---|
| 8 min | Breath, alignment and spring setting |
| 32 min | Footwork, core block, upper body with straps, hips and lateral chain |
| 10 min | Stretching and closing |
For first-timers
- The return of the carriage is half the movement; do not let go of control.
- A heavy spring is not always harder; in some movements a light spring increases control.
- Wear non-slip pilates socks.
Where does it fit in the weekly programme?
2 reformer sessions + 1 mat pilates a week is the ideal combination; it complements your strength programme. For current times weekly schedule page, and for all formats, see group classes page.
