Mat Pilates
The Mat Pilates classes offered at O'Wellness aim to strengthen the core through controlled movements performed with body weight. This method, which improves flexibility, balance and muscle control, is based on core pilates principles. Suited to every level, it offers balanced progress.
Mat Pilates is the form of the classic Joseph Pilates method practised with only a mat and body weight. Unlike Reformer Pilates, it requires no extra equipment, yet offers the same depth in terms of discipline and precision.
The O’Wellness mat pilates session lasts 50 minutes and is built from 18–22 movements selected from the classic 34 mat exercises, in the correct sequence. Session structure: 8 minutes of breath and alignment preparation, a 35-minute core/posture/flexibility cycle, and 7 minutes of closing and relaxation.
Mat pilates works the core muscles (rectus abdominis, transversus abdominis, multifidus) in particular depth; these muscles form the spine’s dynamic support system and are the foundation of back health. Although it is a low-impact exercise, regular practice noticeably improves body awareness, posture, flexibility and balance.
Class flow
| Duration | Section |
|---|---|
| 8 min | Breath and spinal alignment, core activation |
| 32 min | Controlled movement series: spinal articulation, hip and shoulder stability |
| 10 min | Stretching and relaxation |
For first-timers
- Activate the abdomen not 'inward' but 'down and in'; close the ribs as you exhale.
- If you feel neck pain, rest your head on the floor and make the movement smaller.
- The aim is the quality of movements, not the number.
